jk rowling funded a case going before the supreme court that argues it should be legal to discriminate against and persecute trans ppl.

yet still we have to listen to ‘centrists’ claiming she isn’t bigoted she just has ‘a difference of opinion’.

no trans ppl have a voice in these proceedings.

A fringe group of bigoted weirdos have dragged British media, government, and law into their hateful obsession with trans people. Grim, depressing, and dangerous. Everyone with power in the UK who's played along should be ashamed of themselves.

The UK's Supreme Court ruling is abhorrent and outwardly validates an hateful anti-feminist rhetoric that is extremely harmful towards all minorities (incl. cis-women). I am sick of it.

Quite wonderful find by this FT team. A Chinese small business that makes MAGA merch on.ft.com/4cAH6tE
While many Chinese businesses are reeling from the trade war, Qi, the Maga merchandise maker, brushed off any suggestion his might suffer.
Trump supporters, he said, were willing to pay any price for items bearing the image of their beloved president - and US suppliers were making such a huge profit on them that they could afford to partially absorb the tariff impact.
A Trump baseball cap, for instance, cost only Rmb7.50 ($1) to produce. Tariffs might raise that cost to Rmbo, but the caps were being sold for $50 in the US.
"American sellers could even use the tariffs as an excuse to raise the price to $60 - yet the extra cost will still be borne by the US consumers,
" said Qi.

“We’re seeing a rise in broken legs being diagnosed.”

The discourse about this would not be about ‘over-diagnosis’, but about investigation into why this was happening, prevention and support. Perhaps we could do the same for other diagnoses.

1/ We can measure interoception in many aspects, but can we actually manipulate it? I’m excited to share our new study, which shows that blockade of peripheral beta-adrenergic pathways improves cardiac and respiratory interoception in unique ways! 🧵 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Yup, tracks with my experience, too.

And even in a department that was overwhelmingly female (excluding emeriti), if male associates didn’t do the extra labor, it did not hurt their chance at TT, but if female associates didn’t donate their time, they wouldn’t get consideration for TT.

A study on what many of us already know: over 75% of internal service work in academia is done by women. The bit that gets me:”The male associate professors in particular made it clear that they actively engaged in evasiveness and did not want to participate if it was not positive for their careers”

those that evangelize genAI as a "powerful tool" for their little tasks without consideration of its disastrous impact on the information/knowledge ecology are shortsighted, to say the least
davidrvetter.bsky.social
The rise of gen AI, backed at every level by the far-right, suggests the arrival of an _anti-information_ age. AI offers a self-reinforcing bullshit loop that, much like a Russian disinfo operation, serves to muddy the information space and create doubt about the very nature of reality.

Elon Musk's AI platform has been retrained to generate a "both sides" response to whether climate change is a threat. One is the view of science, while the other is fossil fuel industry waffle.
