No, because no microscope conceptualised an idea, wrote the grant, collected the data, or wrote the paper on a world changing discovery. Plenty of women have - many of them quite humble - but totally overlooked for prizes.

Nature Biomedical Engineering is hiring again! This time we're hoping to add an editor with machine learning expertise to the team (although we are open to those with other relevant expertise!) Deadline is Oct 20. Please RT! springernature.wd3.myworkdayjobs.com/SpringerNatu...

Ah, a classic moment of @nature.com recognizing the scientific contributions of both genders: man and machine.

Lol the Nobels can't even acknowledge women's contribution to discovery. But sure let's acknowledge The Machines.
Headline from an article in Nature this week that states "Prizes must recognize machine contributions to discovery. The future of science will be written by humans and machines together. Awards should reflect that reality."

Not 1. Unless you cam telepathically sense when the manuscript status changes from 'under consideration' to 'under review'.

Not 2. This is not a continuous variable.

The ARC is up at #SenateEstimates this Friday. As per tradition, they come in last on the schedule ▶️ www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentar...

I'm sure there won't be many questions about ANU & TEQSA, so there'll definitely be time for lengthly discussion about the ARC 🫠

Everytime I need to submit a business case, I know it is about submitting a “bestness case”.

Oof! That was lucky 🧢

I actually haven’t seen Star Wars. I intend to stay this way.
ijayas.bsky.social
Me too. But it’s not coming back. Sorry 😞 . 🪦

Also, it must be refreshing to see examples of public services free of corporate greed and corner-cutting.

It’s the same idea (but different narrative) here in Australia where ads about the Aus Defense Force feature computer games and shiny new computer tech - you know the demographic they are after.

I’ve come to not expect more of Adrian Smith. Buries his head in the sand every time.

It’s the fact that they talked in very specific detail about the link between CO2 and what they called, “the green house effect”. We’ve had all this time and have done sweet F all about it.

Also, this level of science literacy and optimism about tech just doesn’t exist in journalism today.

Bloody hell. Science was mainstream culture in Australia back then. (I’m a newby to Australia, so had to Google it). I love Omni magazine already!

Did anyone ever watch an Australian TV series in the early 90s called Beyond 2000? It was about the future and how cool future tech and science was going to be.

I feel so let down.

Don’t forget Chatty G. 💀

The irony is that Labour is trying to appeal to that sort of individuals by echoing those ideas. I just don’t think that people like this will ever, ever vote for Labour, especially as Devon is Reform’s heartland.

This reminds me of how our neighbour in Exeter, a security guard at the local army barracks, was obsessed with my “contribution to UK society” (i.e. training new, local students & researchers). Every brief interaction with him used to end with him checking with me on how much longer I had in the UK.

Came here to say this. Isn’t it human nature to reach for the first science fiction term whenever there is an incremental change in technology, even when the improvement is negligible?

When will people realise that the ID cards are not really about conveniences for the mainstream, but about harassing and denying those in the margins? bsky.app/profile/jess...

Tony finally did it - can he retire now?

Just know there will be a massive political fight over how these record "sex".

Who are these other world leaders lining up to be lectured by another English man about nationalism? 🧐
