Stargazing and astrophotography is my passion. I have written several books on astronomy.
I prefer the following broad definition of intersex, but I think the person I am interacting with might just dismiss that as "activist" material.

Differences of Sex Development is less stigmatizing, but the intersex community generally prefers Intersex, as far as I understand.

I don't personally agree with the Consensus Statement, but I thought it might be instructive at least insofar as describing the definition of intersex / DSD from a medical perspective. I specifically disagree with calling intersex conditions "Disorders" of Sex Development.

For your reference, you can read THE "Consensus statement on management of intersex disorders"

Please provide a reputable reference explaining and justifying your seemingly very exclusive definition of intersex. Your definition doesn't seem to conform to medical practice or to the definitions used by the intersex community.

I don't know what to tell you. I have explained that the conditions they describe are literally classified by doctors as a 46-XY DSD (i.e. intersex) and they certainly fall within the even broader definition of intersex used within the intersex community.

Is it really your point that we can't talk about ancient concepts of gender because the English word "gender" didn't exist back then? The whole point of looking at the past is to understand how it relates to and illuminates the present.

...does not mean they are "activists". Just like you, they are putting their point across, and providing a lot more evidence and openness about their perspective than you have provided so far. Also, being an "activist" is not perjorative.

Yes, if you can find rabbis who give a good argument for why this is wrong, of course I would take that on board. The authors of that page are upfront and honest about their background and viewpoint, which makes me trust them more. Just because they are nonbinary and visible on the internet...

...so many people have the obvious signs of PAIS but no definitive lab test diagnosis. That doesn't make them less valid, or stop them from having the health problems that come from androgen insensitivity.

...(differences in sexual development, i.e. intersex). One of the most common DSDs that cause hypospadias and cryptorchidism is PAIS. There are genetic tests for PAIS but the tests can only detect some of the variations...

I am trying to engage you in good faith. I see no contradiction - they are trans and intersex. How they choose to describe their body is a matter for them, not you. Regarding hypospadias and cryptorchidism, if you are born with those conditions, you are routinely referred for testing for DSDs...

It's written by a couple of rabbis. That's good enough for me. It's also backed up by my other wide reading on the subject. You seem to think the information on that reference is false, so lets see your sources?
February 11, 2026 at 3:06 PM
You realise you you are literally telling an intersex person they are wrong about themselves, and putting words in their mouth they expressly do not agree with?

Based on the fact you don't like it?

Hmmm... It's not misogyny if they're not literally cutting bits off you with a rusty razor blade?

When the economy does better, it will only do better **for the rich people they are not taxing**. So it's certain they'll be back for more benefits cuts before long...
