We find that medically assisted reproduction contributed 3.7% to Italy’s total fertility rate in 2022 and 5.9% to fertility of first order; its contribution to fertility reached 16% among women aged 40 + and 31% among women aged 40 + at first birth.

Thrilled to share that

"The contribution of medically assisted reproduction to total, age-, and parity-specific fertility in Italy"

is now out in Human Reproduction, with D. Vignoli, A. Burgio & C. Castagnaro.

📉 Birth rates are falling yet governments aren't listening to what people need in order to create the families they want.

Let the @washingtonpost.com ‬explain some of the reasons why fewer people are having children: unf.pa/bbp

Opinion | Why solving the baby bust is so difficult
No motherhood medal or baby bonus will fix what economic modernization (and closed borders) broke.

Honored to be part of the team of writers behind the @unfpa.org State of the World Population 2025 report.

The real fertility crisis: The most consequential reproductive decision a person can make –when, whether and with whom to have a child– is being undermined by a set of barriers and obstacles

Why would people choose to have children if they can't afford them?

It's time we address #TheRealFertilityCrisis.

Let @unfpa.org—the #UnitedNations sexual and reproductive health agency—explain how: unf.pa/rfc

📢 Coercive policies like baby bonuses or fertility targets won't fix falling birth rates.

People need help overcoming the barriers to parenthood they face.

Let @unfpa.org—the #UnitedNations sexual and reproductive health agency—explain ➡️ unf.pa/rfc

Wonderful report on #fertility. Time to reflect about those politicians using the argument of “cultural changes” as a way to save on public policies (and more sustainable societies).

Among the authors a fantastic @agnese-vitali.bsky.social ❤️

My first (short) article from the PhD is out! 👀
Check it out to discover a bit more on the demographics of age at self-disclosure and age at first coming out among LGB people in Europe 📝

A first systematic description of the age at self-disclosure and coming out for LGB individuals across Europe. While the age of coming out is decreasing, substantial country-level variation persists, with higher ages observed in Central Europe. www.demographic-research.org/articles/vol...
Figure 1 from the published paper, showing the decreasing trend in the age of first coming out. A graphical representation of (part of) Table 2, showing the age at self-disclosure by country in Europe.
