* "We" does not represent the official opinions or consensus vote of the DSTC and may be simply a product of the hydrologic biases of the person managing our social media 😆

Every river is special.
agu-sensing.bsky.social
We* may be biased, but the East River watershed is an amazing living laboratory for interdisciplinary distributed sensing. Researchers have come together from all over to collect water samples, do distributed temperature sensing studies, fly thermal IR drone surveys, and much, much more.
Photo of USGS researchers flying a thermal infrared camera on a small quadcopter. They are standing on a grassy valley hillside. The meandering East River is visible to the right. The background is grassy and tree-covered mountains, with a larger more barren mountain in the distance.

How are you rivers doing in the competition? Is your preferred headwater source dominating the stream?
agu-h3s.bsky.social
The votes are in!!! Check out your Round 1 #CatchmentCup2025 Headwater WINNERS!!! See you tomorrow for the next round for Rain-dominated catchments!
agu-sensing.bsky.social
Look, we would hate to sway your vote by pointing out that the East River is the clear winner.

But the East River is the clear winner.

Tell us more about where you are working! And share your related field, lab, and office photos 📸

This also is a good post- #MinCup25 follow up activity 😀

The top panel shows the monitoring targets (glacier, lake, dam, and downstream exposure and flooding) by instruments such as satellite, uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV), automatic weather station (AWS), uncrewed surface vessel (USV), water level logger, time-lapse camera, and helicopter. The lower panel shows the trigger, mechanism, and downstream impact of GLOFs for moraine-dammed lakes and ice-dammed lakes, respectively.
