Check and make sure you have all your shoes. My dog pulled my mom’s shoes out of her bag when she was packing and she ended up only having the pair that she was wearing for her entire trip.

Generally, we’ll try and nudge faculty to materials we already have if it’s really cost prohibitive. The problem is when they’re bundled into a collection and can’t be purchased separately as an ebook.

We do but we’re not expected to. It’s part of reducing the costs for students. It’s more of a courtesy thing.

How many of those books are “only” available as ebooks? It’s not that usage has gone down but that availability has decreased because publishers want to charge more, especially in academia.

I mean sometimes an author has a terrible book but gets better in the next book. (I think about DiscWorld and the suggestions on where to start.) Though really after 5 books you know what you’re getting into and have no excuse.

I absolutely skipped Frodo and Sam meeting Faramir in the Two Towers because I wanted to know if Aragorn and co saved Merry and Pippin. I did not miss much.

The Hobbit is better for young readers. I read that in fifth grade and enjoyed it. LOTR is probably better for high schoolers with the warning that the author explains absolutely everything.

We are discussing age verification to access the internet. If you don't want your child to access specific content on the internet, the solution is to parent your child, not to have the state forcibly remove the security, civil liberties, anonymity, and privacy of every adult using the internet.
