Unsolicited writing advice, no. 230:
Be honest. Write what you care about. Give of yourself. If you try to hold back, you'll fail to connect with your readers. (And yes, it feels scary, being vulnerable. Do it anyway.)

If you’re going to cold-email someone wanting them to buy a service, maybe give it more than 24 hours before you follow up?

I invite people to imagine how many times I mis-spelled ‘serendipitous’ during the writing of this book.
One of the many great bits in @aptshadow.bsky.social's Stterseer's Ruin is that the Seraphon temple-ships have names that go very hard; Wings of Serendipitous Fire, and Celestial Eye of Tepok.
Coming up with appropriately pretentious ship names for the Aeldari was one of the most fun things about writing this.

I have one more spot in November to create a bespoke book marketing plan for someone! If you've got a book releasing in 2026, this is a great time to start planning your marketing activity. For £250/$335 I can make a fully customised plan for you to carry out in your own time. #AuthorSky

Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?

Did you know we also programme and run the annual Ilkley Literature Festival? Ilkley Lit Fest is the longest-running book festival in the north (and the first in the north!). ILF runs until Sunday 19 October, with events on topics ranging from politics & poetry to comedy & cavapoos (yes, really). 📚

There’s a particular joy in working on books that feature the myths, legends and fantasy creatures I grew up hearing about. I’m putting together marketing advice for a book that uses lots of celtic mythology, and it’s lovely to soak up the world the author has created.

You can book one through Reedsy, or by email ([email protected]), and I have immediate availability.
