Good news: NY joins others in ban cell phones in public schools!
As someone who grew up w payphones and was concerned w students' increasing dependence into their 20s on their parents - this was affirmation: "Little separation anxiety. Can't have my mom in my pocket, can't have my dad in my pocket"

This is about greed -- and about the impacts of it. Oligarchy, lack of public services for the public good, increasing violence among everyday people, hunger, environmental destruction, climate change acceleration.
Austerity cuts for the ordinary people while giving to the wealthiest.

We don’t have to accept an economy where the top 10% can buy a second yacht while working families live paycheck-to-paycheck. A union contract is how we level the playing field and get our fair share.
The wealth of the top 1% reaches a record $52 trillion
All wealth groups saw gains over the past year, according to recent Fed data. But the growth has been fastest for those at the very top.

This - priority for anyone who believes in knowledge, higher ed as public good.
Public scholars - and I would argue pop scholars!
The decades of sitting in isolated conference rooms and reading niche articles in journals shared by few hundred experts as the only ways to share knowledge must end.

COVER REVEAL AND PREORDER: The Public Scholar - A Practical Handbook.

"Perry focuses on the practical details of how to approach public scholarship. How do you pitch a piece to an editor? When should you follow or ignore the rules of the genre? And what happens once your piece is out in the world?"

"Musk’s data centers will probably bring in only a few hundred jobs to Memphis while consuming millions of gallons of water a day and more electricity than is needed to power all the city’s homes. Mr Rowan is quite right that we could lose our global edge in higher education — by yielding to the eccentric and in this case authoritarian ideas of bullying, oligarchic alumni. His compact would put US universities on roughly the same footing as Russia’s.
