Please understand this is one of the most important reasons to do universal basic income. Yes, UBI will reduce poverty, but it will also help everyone not in poverty by reducing their chronic stress. A society-wide decrease in stress would be huge. It would make more possible so many other reforms.
When you don't have to worry about paying bills, you have more time to think. That makes you much more dangerous. The system is designed to keep almost everyone from freedom from worry and also from thinking. If you're always in survival mode, you'll never have time or energy to maximize potential.

Until we reduce inequality, we will bounce between an authoritarian right increasingly blaming immigrants and a center-left that doesn't reduce inequality and loses.
