v2 is finally here after a lot of hard work. A ton of optimization work went into extending the simulation domain to tenfold, 10240x5120, which improves simulation accuracy. Updated force and stress analysis and squashed a bunch of bugs. (1/3)

If we remove indirect costs from these, wonder how many Postdocs this can support! Lolz!!
Totally agree. If Europe was serious in positioning itself as a new strong research hub in the world, we would need to invest hundreds of billions (as made available for weapons) not millions, that's basically just a drop in the ocean...
That’s right…the EU’s investment, while laudable, is off by an order of magnitude.
Also, this investment should augment current research investments.

“He often worked 15 hours a day, complaining that each discovery cost a night’s sleep, and in 1890 alone published an astounding fourteen scientific articles on the nervous system” - this is what is said about Ramon y Cajal, a stalwart in neuro. 14/year was once believed astounding! Good times!

Wow! Never expected science departments would start to get cut!
As a chemist who now works in Biology and knows the critical role of chemistry as a life science this ⬇️ saddens me to no end 😔 Chemistry is an *essential* science, it prob needs rebranding and a touch of fresh edu-paint to survive, not to be wiped! 😩 #chemsky

The strain on scientific publishing: we set out to characterise the remarkable growth of the scientific literature in the last few years, in spite of declining growth in total scientists. What is going on?

I said to myself that I won’t attend meetings (particularly admin). Will attend only those pertaining to research and (maybe) core teaching until end of year. Time to get back to real work!
