For many victim-survivors, their animals are their source of comfort, stability, and unconditional love. Yet, in abusive households, animals are often threatened, harmed, or used to manipulate and control. Victim-survivors describe the terror of seeing their pets targeted.

Many say that they have stayed in dangerous situations far longer because they could not bear the thought of leaving their animals behind with the perpetrator.
