tonight I learned, from the Seattle Times' lawsuit alleging Seattle police violated state public records law and a settlement with the Times, that SPD rushed to respond to a KOMO records request, providing documents in less than a month that a Times reporter had been waiting on for almost 2 years.

The changes are part of the city's long-delayed comprehensive plan, which still isn't finished—giving the new mayor and councilmembers an opportunity to add urbanist improvements.

Seattle's city council just published its own proposed amendments to the 2026 city budget they adopted last year. The mayor already piled on $53 million in new spending the city can't really afford, but the council one-upped him, proposing $68 million in potential new spending.

We're on day 28 of the Republican shutdown.

Yet, House Republicans are STILL on vacation, even as 3 million Floridians, 3 million Texans, and millions more, in red and blue states, will lose their food assistance next week. It's time to come to the table and end this shutdown.

Just wanna highlight that Seattle Public Schools teacher salaries start at just over $60,000, less than half what a new Seattle police officer will make after six months under the new contract.

Cops get bonuses for two-year associate degrees; teachers, of course, have to have finished college.
Salaries were significantly higher last year, presumably because of inflation:

Wilson led successful campaigns to raise minimum wages in Tukwila, Burien, and unincorporated King County–those are the efforts for which Harrell gives all credit to elected officials. (In reality, Burien at least is STILL fighting against the minimum wage).

In theory, the new contract allows the CARE Team to respond to more call types. In practice, it says they can't go to homeless encampments, inside buildings, or places where someone is using drugs.
