DNA analysis confirms that the Hexagonal-pored Polypore (Neofavolus americanus) found in North America is a distinct species from the European one (Neofavolus alveolaris).

Bull Thistle (Cirsium vulgare); spindles of purple-pink tufted florets rising from a dark green, pear shaped and spiny flower head. Considered an invasive in North America, even though it's rich nectar is an attractive food source to many types of insects.

Yellow sprays of Elegant Goldenrod with two Yellowish Cuckoo Bumblebees and either a small butterfly or moth enjoying fresh nectar. While there species of Goldenrod that are considered invasive to Canada, this species is native to western North America.

So many patches of Ghost Pipes this summer, and the pink tints in these particular ones seem to be reminding us that, yes, this is a #wildflower ...

Patch of several Ghost Pipes (Monotropa uniflora); the flowers are translucent and largely colourless, those these ones have a slight pink tint which is not uncommon to see. Each flower is somewhat bell-shaped and extending downwards from a single erect stem that is curved at the apex.

Meadow Mushroom (Agaricus campestris) inverted in my hand. Cap and stem are white, and the stem is narrower and smoother near the apex where the sheath has separated. Gills are crowded and free from the stem, colour of gills is a brownish pink at this stage.

Oxeye Daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare) flower head; numerous white petals surrounding a yellow center. Several groups of small unidentified insects are gathered inside the edges of the center, and a small type of plant bug is on one of the petals heading towards the center. Oxeye Daisy is designated an invasive and considered a noxious weed here in British Columbia.

Thimbleberry flower (Rubus parviflorus) - single white flower consists of five broad, rounded petals surrounding a center of numerous pale yellow stamens. Native to many parts of North America, it produces a red raspberry shaped berry that is tart and edible.

Sticky Geranium (Geranium viscosissimum) flower stalk. Single pink flower head atop a green stalk – flower head has five pink, purple-veined blossoms with erect dark red stamens; three clusters of opened buds are beneath the flower, followed by green leaves attached to the stalk; the leaves, stem and flower stalks are covered with small sticky hairs, and the plant is likely proto-carnivorous. Plant is often found at altitude and is native to British Columbia, as well as parts of NW US.
