Honestly a great article. I love how much TWIV is focusing on people who are actually having to deal with this shit.
What's actually involved in getting a human voice actor to record lines for a game, and how does that compare to an AI replacement?

@maddie-b-a.bsky.social speaks to actors and audio engineers like @selmaleh.bsky.social and @jeffvandyck.com to try and demystify what goes into giving games a voice.
How the Cost and Effort of Human Voice Actors Compares to Generative AI
“A well-trained actor will save production in the end because you know the better trained you are, the quicker you can do the job and get what you need”

It's not easy to admit you were wrong about something, that too when you have millions of people listening to you. Happy to see Jazza approach this topic with the sincerity it deserves. And I'm glad he linked all the resources in the video description so people can make up their own minds.

We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists who are currently or have previously worked in game development about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.

I've seen lots of acceleration due to the use of AI: acceleration of inequality, acceleration of climate catastrophe, acceleration of slop, acceleration of trust collapse, acceleration of scams, acceleration of model collapsed acceleration of misinformation, acceleration of drought

Google's aggressive use of AI search summary(more like misinformation generator) has forced me to switch to Duckduckgo where I can at least turn off that garbage.

This is so fucked up! This kind of misinformation could destroy a person's life.

The use of GenAI has made documenting the creative procress more important than just showing the final result. In the past, clients and audiences didn't care about the process; only the outcome mattered. To them the end result was proof enough that effort was put in.(1/2)

EXCLUSIVE: So far it's been unclear what proof Rockstar Games has to justify its firing of 34 union members, who it claims were leaking "confidential information in a public forum".

PMG has now seen some of the messages which contributed to this decision being made.

The two genres of AI enthusiast appear to be people who believe:

- other people are inanimate objects, NPCs, and therefore replaceable
- inanimate objects are capable of being people, and should be treated as such.

I have a bit more respect for the second group, but I wish both were less lonely.
