... but I guess instead of solidarity one can opt for everyone for themselves approach. This is not to say we don't get to be critical over funding allocation etc., but this particular attack seems very silly and irresponsible.

That whole thread over there seems very bizzare. You would think academics in the States would be a bit more weary of trivialising other academics research over funding they receive in the context of the current political climate surrounding funding of research there...

I don't buy it. I do believe that Russia made a deliberate intelligence leak about something like that to scare the Americans, and it worked. It's also a convenient story for the US establishment, btw, because it justifies a strategy that turned out to be a failure.

More opportunities @dependencybonn.de !

We are also looking for research fellows to join us in 2026-7, with projects that develop and critically reflect on specific methodological approaches to the study of strong asymmetrical dependencies, to help us develop our newly minted Method Lab.

In addition, the call for new Heinz Heinen fellows has just gone live: www.dependency.uni-bonn.de/en/fellowshi... (for doctoral, junior postdoc, senior postdoc, and alternative knowledge producer positions)

The Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies is hiring three postdoctoral researchers.

We investigate the causes and mechanisms that contribute to the persistence of strong asymmetrical dependencies across historical and contemporary contexts.

Pre-modern perspectives are very welcome!

What does going "further than original form" would even mean? Reclaiming the regions of the Cossack Kuban People's Republic of 1918-1920😅?

There are many statements right now where MAGA politicians complain about being compared to the Nazis, but seriously: have these people spent any amount of time studying what the nazis did and how that compares to themselves?
rikefranke.bsky.social
These two paragraphs, these two statements one after the other is quite something.
“Charlie Kirk being assassinated is the American Reichstag fire,” said Matt Forney, a rightwing writer and blogger. He said Democratic politicians should be arrested and the party banned. “It is time for a complete crackdown on the left.”

He was not alone. Katie Miller, the influencer and wife of Trump’s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, said liberals were to blame for Kirk’s killing. “You called us Hitler,” she wrote on X. “You called us Nazis. You called us Racists. You have blood on your hands.”

I just published this video, and the next night, Russia launches drones at Poland. It really underscores the point. The European NATO countries need Ukraine just as much as Ukraine needs security guarantees from them.

Unfortunately we in Central and Eastern Europe are the ones who will be reaping what the Buffoon of the White House and his bunch of clueless plutocratic attendants sowed for the sake of having a couple pictures with the Despot of Moscow in Alaska

Oh, I didn't feel like it was. I just figured I might take this as an opportunity to admit my mistake in a more public manner :). People are of course welcome to point it out if they ever end up referencing that essay of mine.
akjp89.bsky.social
Against all odds, such as shared Academic networks, subject or the fact that there is a poster of its earlier iteration in the building I currently work at, which was showed to me recently by a colleague once I told her I should have taken account of that article in my essay, I simply missed it.
akjp89.bsky.social
Not trying to start a trend (or am I?), but perhaps it's a good occasion to make admitting one's fault a bit more acceptable. I will start with my recent mistake. I completely missed Harry Mawdsley "Mapping Clerial Exile in the Vandal Kingdom (435-48)" in my recent Viewpoint Essay in SLA.
