Yesterday a student at a nearby high school was shot and killed. He wasn't at school at the time, but went there for help before dying. I know what it's like to learn that one of my students has been murdered, and my heart goes out to all affected by this tragedy.

Today my broadcasting club is celebrating its 500th daily broadcast. Since November of 2022, we've had one every day there were classes held (with a couple necessary exceptions). Proud of these kids who show up early and work hard and willingly every single day.

I know some of my colleagues are using it themselves, some are having kids use it, and some are even letting it grade student work in some alarming contexts. I'm not liking how this is heading. I wish I had missed literally any other meeting.

I did make sure my voice was heard before I left, and was assured there would be no new policy announced and that I wouldn't be forced to start integrating AI in my teaching. But I would really have liked to find out what my colleagues' attitudes are, and how admin is leaning.

While I was away at Shakespeare, I missed my school's first PD meeting on AI. So now I'm in the position of having no idea where our new admin team stands on one of the most hot button educational issues around.

Well, as a teacher of middle and high school students at a school that attracts and caters to traumatized kids, de-escalation is practically my default mode.

He said something like, "Is that bike yours? I just want you to know that if you come on this train again that's my parking spot."

I smiled knowingly like it was an inside joke. He laughed a little, mumbled something about "kidding" and walked away.

Guy on the train expressed dismay that someone else's bike (mine) was in "his spot." He felt strongly enough about it that several minutes later he came to speak to me about it directly.

Because of a viewfinder issue, I've been shooting for the past week or two with a black and white filter applied digitally because it helps me see focus better. I like how it's affecting my photography, regardless of whether the photo stays black and white in the end.
