HIPAA is (imo, unnecessarily) incredibly complicated. I mean, ppl don’t even abbreviate it right or remember what it stands for, let alone ‘get’ it. Providers have to pass a training on it yearly (at least) and folx still struggle.

But having lived prior to its enactment, I say it’s very necessary.

That’s the thing: we are not supposed to share *anything*, truthful or not, w/o a release of info, designated for a specific use.

So any provider discussing a patient/client at all is behaving unethically. One can draw whatever conclusions they want about in/accuracy but it’d just be speculation.

Yes. We really can’t even acknowledge whether or not someone is a client/patient, let alone reveal any aspect of care.

Obvs, potus has some other demands but even the in/accuracy aspect is protected.
