Please take some time to read about the origin of the 1.5C target. It didn't originate from naivety or stupidity. Those who put it forward certainly didn't see it as "pointless" then, and would probably still not.

This morning, a Russian ballistic missile struck Odesa, targeting a multi-story residential building and causing extensive damage to civilian infrastructure.
The attack has resulted in at least eight fatalities, including a teenager, and over 30 people injured.
