Like every (?) #skystorian, doing a little Groundhog Day research in the run-up.

Haven't seen this before:
An 1879 Chicago Daily Trib article connecting the holiday not to Pennsylvania Germans but to "our colored brethren."

Spider causes earthquake.
Like the butterfly effect, but creepier.

We talked pareidolia in #His1840 Graphic History! & now students are sending me faces they see in the world. My email is more fun than usual.

Problems: There's no "i" or "v" in my name. Also no 2nd "h" & no 3rd "n" or "e". And the OED doesn't know from mannels.

AI can't anagram my name. Each real man can.

Fascinating.

My Graphic History! course is a month away, so I must be reading "Consulting the Map: Bil Keane’s dotted-line drawings in The Family Circus and comics cartography."

Whenever I hear stories of "Canadian" animals spotted in the UK, I first wonder if they're the descendants of donated Canadian national park ones that escaped. It's happened.

Here are beaver heading to London, Eng, 1946. 2 died in the traps, another in transit. heritage.canadiana.ca/view/oocihm....

Taught this in my #envhist class today & was reminded how superb it is not just on doing animal history, but on doing history, full stop. press.ucalgary.ca/books/978177...

But I do wish they'd chosen this as the cover.

I can't decide whether adding this to my calendar today is a sign of positive thinking or despair.

Your annual reminder that 🍁 were whale blower-uppers well before 🗽 were. We just didn't get television until 1990, so couldn't go viral.
