Trump's second term is unequivocal proof that American power is inherently dangerous to the world, and any serious progressive foreign policy project should advocate for a diminished role in global affairs.

I'm not inherently opposed to the idea of mandatory national service but I'm usually offput by those who support it so fervently. Most developed nations that require this provide much more generous social benefits than we do and proponents rarely bring that up.
I propose Tyler Harper and Jay Kang go do a mandatory year of service rn so we don’t have to hear from them for a bit

I was pretty surprised to see that Cato Institute basically takes a NIMBY position on housing, at least at the federal level.

The ROAD to More Federal Control: How Congress Is Misdiagnosing America’s Housing Problems
Overall, it is unlikely that the policies in the ROAD to Housing Act will satisfy many critics of federal housing policy over the past few decades.

one of the things i hate most about this persistent line of argument is the implication that any of these actions would be fine if groceries were cheaper
The White House is laser focused on threatening a military takeover of Greenland.

Where’s the same focus on lowering costs?

Quincy Institute derangement syndrome
No doubt a Restrainer™️ will write a thoughtful Responsible Statecraft piece for the Quincy Institute explaining how President Trump ordering a military assault on Venezuela is a positive step towards a less interventionist America

I guess I'm late to the "strong floor, no ceiling" controversy. I don't care what slogan a political party uses in an election and I think others should care less, but it's interesting to think about why this slogan in particular appeals to Jeffries and Democrats like him.

"it's deeply miseducating to working people" lmfao. I really do give credit to Sawant for her work on the minimum wage and the Amazon tax but it's completely insane that someone who talks like this ever got elected to anything.

The language choice of "look like" is crucial. There's absolutely zero evidence of substantive agreement on uplifting the working class and the poor, so they appeal to the imagery of the moment and so called "good vibes", which is apparently all that matters in our post literate society.

A substantial percentage of voters don't vote based on the type of policy and results they want from government but instead based on how their vote fits into the desired individual identity they've constructed for themselves. A bit difficult for me to relate to this.
As an owner and employer in a male dominated industry, construction, I did my own sample of “why Trump”. My Hispanic employees said this, Lisa I don’t want to be “other”, I want to be American. Not Latino American, just American, and that’s what Trump says. So I voted for Trump.
