I noted in my extensive research (10 seconds of googling) that this misleading statement has been circulating in right-wing media and circles for a few weeks. IDK, but I feel like this is not the best way to bring small-c conservatives into the fold.

The statement was cherry-picked from a report on risk downward social mobility, which is issue number 8. First disruptor: people cannot tell what is true and what is not. Make of that what you will.

I thought it would be a more prime-ministerial kind of event, given the lack of three-word slogans on the podium and the presence of Caroline Mulroney (that was a good move, BTW, given the in-fighting). It started off relatively strong, i.e. no personal attacks and focus on Trump.

When Danielle Smith appears on Breitbart or Poilievre calls people rightly concerned about climate change "loons" on Jordan Peterson's show, it's not a mistake. They are speaking with friends and allies. thetyee.ca/News/2025/01...

Their statements released last week could have been written by the same person. Make no mistake: Poilievre and Smith are standing up for oil and gas CEOs over and above the interests of Canadians. Will be interesting to see if CPC can distance themselves at all from Smith's comments on Breitbart.
