essentially every game in my "hall of fame" has this quality, SotN included. Balatro, Tunic, Outer Wilds, Super Metroid, heck even DDR and Rock Band. They all ooze craft from every angle and it creates magic.

It's why I think it's nearly impossible to make my list without good sound design.

I'm not at all familiar with either example, but that all tracks.

Absolutely. If any detail feels off I want to fix it! It's never-ending but often the end user can't tell you what's off, or even notice that it is. Or think about how it could've been worse. But enough of these problems and they'll still "feel" it if nothing else. Quality is vibes, in a sense.

which, going back to your OP, is patterns, vibes, backgrounds in the comic - they're all actual visible parts of the whole that make things feel REAL and COMPLETE :)

I feel like I could also draw a lot of parallels here to how I feel about game and story pacing in general.

The details matter to me as a fractal exploration of the whole. :)

Like there isn’t some clear line here or anything but essentially I tend to “solve for” things as I go. The stuff that ends up having a lot of thought put into it ends up being stuff that has a lot of touchpoints, stuff that matters. Other details I try to leave until they CAN matter.
January 11, 2026 at 5:51 AM
I think this is true in so much as you are thinking about them towards a real tangible product - lore for the sake of lore is a death sentence imo in either medium

Details matter but they should move things along- ideas are easy, integration/execution is where the sauce is, etc

At this point mainly the "dialog background", seen here in three places :) That's an Alexis special ;) been in since day one

This sounds so much better on headphones/desktop, and bluesky isnt doing the audio any favors either
January 10, 2026 at 6:22 AM
i believe that's the title screen theme, actually :) but if I go back to polish this up I certainly need some sort of environmental sfx to add a bit more flair so... maybe :D
January 9, 2026 at 10:42 PM
lol yeah I'm glad someone else can hear it too 😂
January 9, 2026 at 10:17 PM
to be clear, I did not set out to rewrite anything

it's just interesting how brains converge on similar patterns over time, and I can definitely see the echoes of the Caverns theme in this song even if it's very different in many ways
