As someone who was on tech for Y2K let me be the first to say I’m sorry but I figured just turning it off and back on would start things over fresh

Slack, I know sometimes we can disagree on whether changes to UX are "good" or "bad" or "terrifying"

but can we at least all agree not to make one-item submenus

that expand in the opposite direction

This is so true

But putting that much effort into every nook and cranny of your game creates works of art

I do believe the best games are the best because every detail intentional, everything has love and attention poured into it, “whole greater than the sum of parts” etc
Game development is spending weeks working on a feature that 10 players will notice, go “oh, that’s kinda neat” and then move on to the next part of the game

Behind The Waterfall

Every waterfall hides something... whether it's treasure, or trouble. (stealth/exploration-focused Zelda-like, I'm thinking...)

Bonus track for the evening :) about 3 hrs in and this is already one of my favorites, so I'll probably keep working on it

There are a handful of visual assets still in Galaxy that were literally created by me, very early on- because, well, you need SOMETHING

I am not an artist

You do not want me making final assets 😅

They are very jarring to me to see still in the game but they will hopefully be gone soon enough 🤩

"UnderFlow" - What the #megazeux Caverns theme might sound like if I wrote it today :)

This is probably about halfway done (both length-wise and polish-wise) but it's a good place to tie it off and move on until I need to dig it out for a real project :)

Highly recommend the general habit of backing up copies of basic/critical information - it's unfortunate that in addition to serial numbers, warranties, and medical records, that now includes "factual scientific consensus".

But yeah. You might want these at some point in the future.
Here's the adult vaccination recommendations as of Nov 2024. Why did I save these? Because I knew someone was going to try to stomp on this, and not today, Satan. Not today. #CDC #vax #vaccines #getvaxxed

Reach out to long-lost old friends. Tell them why you remember them fondly.

Nothing beats "of course I remember you" arriving in your inbox. Big warm fuzzies.

Connections are the meaning of life.

Worm Harvest was one of the earliest Magic cards I designed 🥰
FINALLY we get an answer to the age old question:

Would you love me if I was a worm harvest?

This is how I relax in the evening. I make pretty brain candy sounds. This is 2.5hrs of playing with my toys, from when the initial "seed" measure popped out of my head.

I'm posting it here in full unedited glory, warts and all. Great raw unfiltered emotional strokes, no second tries. #music

highly recommended read for any fans of (ugh) "metroidbranias"

As a self-professed fan who was frustrated that MY idea of the "genre" did not include a lot of these commonly-recommended games... this gave me some new directions to research ;)

*ALEXIS 2025 IN REVIEW*

I've never been a "New Year's Resolutions" kind of gal but I am a huge fan of regular self-evaluation and setting ambitious goals for oneself. The rollover of the year is a perfect opportunity for some bigger-picture reevaluation!

I'll be poking at this 🧵 all day long...

This might sound crazy but I keep doing more of the stuff I want to and less of the stuff I don't and tbh it's going pretty great so far
Yearly reminder that you CAN just become a different person, you're not as imprisoned in your life as you think. You can just be the one who dresses nice or exercises or reads a lot, or whatever. You can just start doing it, some people might make fun of you but they don't really care.

Interesting (and inconclusive) thread- I similarly find that i rarely walk away disappointed from movies while regularly abandoning games out of disinterest (or worse)

I share a lot of the same thoughts as OP…
I have watched about a hundred movies this year and they were all very good / interesting / memorable. Definitely worth my time.

I can't say the same for video games, and I'm trying to figure out why...
