i have been reading Tom Ricks’ “Fighting the Good War” which is a military analysis of the civil rights movement, and one thing that comes abundantly across is that movement leaders and ordinary people made it a practice to refuse to fall into despair and cynicism.

I think this is a good insight - but it surely is Dems’ fault for sticking to canned lines/dumb stunts in moments when their constituents want relief/change. I don’t endorse doomerism but I also don’t blame anyone for tuning out career-focused cowards

Definitely. I think there is already an implied threat that if you don’t want ICE to come to your town then you better not vote blue, which already counts as suppression imo

Here’s another one: i feel like infinite crackdowns for the public vs total impunity for the super-rich - demonstrated in possibly the most stark way imaginable - may tell us a lot about why things are the way they are.

Since they count it as assault if you lay a *single finger* on a cop, every time they slowly walk at you like this they’re threatening you with jail time, a seriously dubious contribution to public safety…and pathetic on the heels of being caught committing murder in broad daylight #defundthepolice

really aggravating that the NYT has a huge pack of the best journalists on the planet, and then nearly all of the key decisions regarding attention, framing, and overall coverage are driven by a crypto right wing nepo baby and a dozen-ish of his toadies
