"[In the USA], I was amazed by the amount of Christmas decorations and lights . . . and I couldn't help but think: they sent us bombs while celebrating Christmas in their lands. They sing about the Prince of Peace in their land while playing the drum of war in our land."

For Israel, responding to the deaths of 1,400 of its citizens with overwhelming force in Gaza and locking down the West Bank will not address the roots of the conflict. t.co/7l5S5s5UAa

This week we start to read the Torah all over again from the beginning.

We read the verse that tells us that human beings are created in the divine image.

The one where we're all created from one common ancestor.

And we read the verse:

"Your sibling's blood cries out to me from the ground!"

No matter how many times I read it, no matter which translation, this passage from Iliad 24 will always bring me to tears. Especially poignant this week. #ClassicsBluesky

“There is no question that Hamas committed grave war crimes in its brutal attacks on Israeli citizens, and it should be held accountable. But there is also no question that the collective punishment of Gaza represents grave war crimes,” writes @abuaardvark.bsky.social.

I'm trying out Bluesky!

I plan to mostly follow conversations in peace and security for digital comms work (climate change, nuclear weapons, and mass violence).

With an enduring interest in the history and literature of the ancient Mediterranean, my posts may also contain a hodgepodge of topics.
