4 Fascination (1979, Jean Rollin): Softcore bisexual vampire action! Gauzy outfits and rampant eyeliner! Maximalist decor! Blood cult! Immaculate vibes!

Queer women and femmes should all receive a long black cloak and big ass scythe on their 18th birthdays, we deserve it.

3 Urban Legends: Bloody Mary (2005, dir. Mary Lambert): This had been on my list for ages just because of Lambert, and it’s entertaining but not much to really note. Some parallels to Hello Mary Lou but way less fun. Some good kills, including a tanning bed roasting.
Urban Legends: Bloody Mary poster. My lb log for Urban Legends: Bloody Mary.

Very stupid but enjoyable imo! Couldn't help noticing thematic parallels to Katt Shea's Carrie sequel as both take the premise of jock boys assaulting teen girl classmates and getting away with it until a vengeful magical girl comes onto the scene. The Rage is much better but appreciated the connection!

2 The Witches (1966, dir. Cyril Frankel): idk I just dig weirdo small town movies and also old timey British horror! The same writer as The Stone Tape AND Halloween III: Season of the Witch which is an impressive pedigree to me

1 Blackout (2023, dir. Larry Fessenden): No surprise but this is great, and sad, and smart. One of these days I’ll do a deeper dive into Fessenden’s work because I love the 4 I’ve seen!

I’ve got… a lot… going on so not sure how much horror I’ll be getting to this Shocktober but I think I’ll do a running thread for what I do watch because horror makes me happy and maybe you feel the same 🎃

I haven’t had a car since I was in college and I don’t need one to live where I am, tbh I don’t actually want one! It’s only because my brother is giving me his old one and I have a free parking spot; I’ll use it for art markets I regularly vend at and had to use Lyft or borrow friends’ cars for

getting a car in my late thirties has really forced me to do several intimidating (to me) adult things i have avoided doing... most of them are form-related

help i signed up for car and renter's insurance and now i have a million emails in my inbox i guess this is what being an adult boils down to

Adventures in film inspection: a recently acquired print had some random bits and pieces used for leader, including this mystery food/concessions ad presumably inspired by Heinz Edelmann and other psychedelic animators? It’s super dark and the color’s totally gone sadly but still looks rad!

At least there are never any surprises 🙃🙃🙃

The OBAA review failed to mention it playing in 70mm at Somerville theatre which also was a great feeling 🤘

Remembering one of the best, Gloria Grahame, who died on October 5, 1981.

If she was on screen you had to look at her. Not one wasted moment.
