I was there as part of Manchesters twining project with the nearby city of Chemnitz. Interesting times.

The area is now rebuilt but I thought it was hugely effective left the way it was.

Little known point of interest. I went to Dresden not long after the wall came down. The cathedral there was linked to Coventry cathedral due to both being damaged during bombing raids. In Dresden they had left that area in ruins since WW2 as a reminder of the destruction caused by war.

I despair. It's just a big game for most of them. Their lives are sorted. Stop grandstanding and work too make the country better for the people who live in it. Shut the fk up and do your job as Keane might say.

...as an aside. I made a mistake in the link . Why you can't correct things like that without having to write it all out again...

Oddly despite saying that about my gran. She never attended commemorate events saying they were taken over by the church and people she referred too as dignitaries. She preferred quiet reflection.
My grandad just went for a few pints with people he knew who had lived through it all.

Also just spoken too my 92 year old mother. I've not seen any of today's event. She was quite hurt by that. She talks of various family members and friends fathers and brothers who never came back.
I tend to see remembrance day as being hijacked by the you must wear a poppy crowd. To some it's more.

I went for her instead. She described his lovely little grave in rows of his pals. Sadly it was not the case. He's named on the memorial as missing. A body was never found. In a way I'm glad she never found that out. Keeping a view of a well tended resting place in her head .

I do Facebook as I have a 92 year old mother who sees it. So lots of family photos get linked in . It's good for that sort of thing. I don't seem to get all sorts of adverts that many complain about.
