i dont really think we should either, i use petite bourgeois people just make it weird

idk how you'd really categorise that group today but people clearly go down wrongheaded paths when they're spoken of as part of a certain class

the lumpenproletariat are defined as being an underclass outwith proletarianization basically, the chronically unemployed, prisoners etc
November 21, 2025 at 8:29 AM
it does but "self employment" implies a lower position than say, being the ceo of exxonmobil, so i think that's a fair point to make as being what distinguishes the petite bourgeois artisan from someone doing artistic work as part of an employed team etc

same with lumpenproletariat, something thats also often weaponized against people
November 21, 2025 at 8:21 AM
mind you they also do own means of production of a sort, just not on the scale of the bourgeoisie as such, as said in other replies this should ultimately be a value neutral assessment
November 21, 2025 at 8:20 AM
i think the distinction is that they're self employed as opposed to employed by a boss og some sort, what defines the petite bourgeois i think is more so their self employment than their ownership over means of production like the "big" bourgeoisie

people use it as an example that they should be grateful?

yes artisans are explicitly within the petite bourgeois, thats not to say they should "get the wall" or whatever such nonsense people like to say
