I wrote a while back about white women writing KKK romance, Nazi soldier romances etc in books they populate with 'Black gangster goons'. It's all about disguising your bigotry toward Black people, Jewish people, immigrants as a 'kink' and demanding people validate it or be judged as puritans.

The stuff about 'I write fiction to work out my real-life frustrations' becomes pretty grim when you examine who the target of those frustrations is. Suppose someone goes 'I'm frustrated with immigrants IRL so I wrote a horror story about sending them to concentration camps'. Not great, is it.
