I know the complexity is the point but when the Home Office can barely deal with the system that's in place, it'll take everyone 20 years to get settled status anyway.

The same size but without the fireproof performance will cost $40 to $50 per piece, so it provides an incentive for some to take risks."

Good morning, while everyone is waiting for the budget to be announced it’s a good time to say that immigration is a source of prosperity for the UK and painting Britain as a hostile state is sabotaging the country. Thanks!

It was so incredibly frustrating to watch the UK act so slowly in early 2020. This was amplified by the fact we’d been writing about the virus from Asia for a UK newspaper for weeks and nothing seemed to be being done.

I last lived in the UK in 2013. Since then, the salaries haven’t moved, prices have gone up and the roads have craters. At least there’s been innovation in Soreen flavours

I was last in the UK 18 months ago and in the 48 hours I’ve been here, I’ve realised restaurant mains are now £20 (Brighton, Lewes) and coffee is Hong Kong prices.

Extending the period needed to gain indefinite leave to remain to 10 years is unfair, is longer than other countries like Germany (not competitive when attracting workers), and the timing is particularly cruel for this huge group of people.
You may have heard about UK ministers' plan to double to 10 years the time needed to reached settled status in the UK. But did you realise that it threatened access to pensions for the 180,000 people who came from Hong Kong on the UK government's visa scheme? My dispatch: www.ft.com/content/8b91...
