Alicia Whitley
@aliciawhitley.bsky.social
Mom, educator, Bull City baby, and PhD Candidate - with a particular interest in critical media and critical social media literacy. @jeremywhitley.bsky.social is my other half.
Um. @jeremywhitley.bsky.social and I found these abandoned bottles of sriracha and malk… and I have a few questions - the primary one being “is this how Boise gets down?”

On my way to #ELATE2025, I paused to check out the ribbons at St. Matthew’s. I stopped to tie one on myself. One of the groundskeepers encouraged me - “when prayers go up, blessings come down”. I thanked her and left a ribbon and a prayer… and a couple of tears. It felt right this morning.

I’m not feeling very patriotic today… for reasons. But I did want to put some energy into my local community - so the kid and I volunteered at the #FestivalfortheEno as face painters.

… and everyone was super nice about my poor attempts at face painting!

This thread is a stirring tribute to the goodest and weirdest boy-boy. We will miss you Acetopher.

Pauli Murray is truly inspirational, and this place was so impactful and affirming for my kids to visit. If you would like to donate to help support their continued efforts, check out paulimurraycenter.com.

I've been working on @proghorrorpod.bsky.social's next ep (which drops tomorrow) about Nightmare 3 - bc it's kinda nice to be horrified by fiction... @benkahncomics.bsky.social @megamoth.bsky.social and @jeremywhitley.bsky.social are joined by @awalrusdarkly.bsky.social to talk Dream Warriors.

I have been roasted…
“Alicia writes as if she’s leading a classroom discussion—engaging, direct, and sprinkled with a healthy dose of sass. Her posts are like her PhD journey: structured but filled with delightful tangents.”

And I feel like this is too accurate.

My researcher partner is at #NCTE sharing our poster on using an Action Research design to increase the depth of critical reflection in our pre-service teachers’ writing.

I can’t be in Boston, but if you’re there, look for our poster (and also, grab some chowder for me!)

Took a group of preservice teachers to the Greensboro History Museum and the International Civil Rights Museum in Greensboro to see the lunch counter where the sit-ins started. It was a very moving experience, and I highly recommend the guided tour.

@breindigo.bsky.social - I thought you would appreciate this picture of me and @jeremywhitley.bsky.social ‘s kid standing in front your art. The curls. The ears. The looking just to the left…

Also, Waiblingen is such a wonderful place to stay. We have very much enjoyed staying at the Bachofer and being able to easily walk to markets, shops, restaurants, and bars!
