It is patently absurd that instead of having the National Park Service workers do their job (they can’t, Trump fired them), we have countless National Guard soldiers yanked from their own jobs and communities tasked with spreading mulch.

UPDATE: In drafting the rule yesterday, House Republicans made a mistake. They forgot to order the previous question as part of the rule. This is wonky, but it's important and they are going to want to fix this. Without ordering the previous question, @SpeakerJohnson doesn't have an escape hatch if he starts debate on the bill. Meaning, they have to vote on the bill once they get onto it. Johnson is probably going to want to fix this with an amendment on the floor when they begin considering the rule. But they will need a majority to change the rule.

This man has had healthcare paid for by taxpayers the vast, vast majority of his life and is worth millions upon millions. And today he’s telling the poor, disabled and senior citizens they’ll “get over it” when he votes to gut Medicaid.

With my whole chest: fuck this guy.

How convenient that Musk rolled in to the U.S. House mere hours before they want to vote on a budget that would gut Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP in order to give him one of the largest tax cuts in American history.

Musk’s gotta make sure his minions do his bidding.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office says the budget House Republicans are racing to pass this week would require $490,000,000,000 — half a TRILLION — in funding cuts to Medicare for seniors.

Republicans are gutting Medicare to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.

Letter from CBO that says: How Would Sequestration Affect Medicare and Other Programs, Assuming That Funding Subject to Sequestration Remained Equal to the Amounts in CBO's January 2025 Baseline Projections? Under S-PAYGO, reductions in Medicare spending are limited to 4 percent or an estimated $45 billion for fiscal year 2026. That would leave $185 billion to be sequestered from the federal budget's remaining direct spending accounts in that year. S-PAYGO exempts many large accounts, including those that provide funding for Social Security and low-income programs. Therefore, in CBO's estimation, OMB would have roughly $120 billion in budgetary resources available for cancellation in 2026—less than the remaining amount that would be required to be sequestered. 3 How Would Medicare Be Affected After 2026? The 4 percent maximum reduction in Medicare spending would apply to sequestration orders for years after 2026. If OMB ordered a sequestration of $230 billion for each year through 2034, the ordered reductions in Medicare continuation of letter: spending would increase to about $75 billion in 2034 and would total roughly $490 billion over the 2027-2034 period. How Would All Other Programs That Are Subject to Sequestration Be Affected? After accounting for the reduction in Medicare spending, the required eduction in spending for other programs would exceed the estimated amount of resources available to those programs in each year over the 2027-2034 period. If OMB sequestered all of the funding for those programs, the total amounts would be less than the reductions required by S-PAYGO. I hope this information is useful to you.
