The "F.U.R.R.I.E.S ACT" bill from Stan Gerdes (R-Smithville) would prohibit "non-human behavior" in Texas schools, including but not limited to:

-Litterboxes
-Tails
-"Leashes, collars, other accessories designed for pets"
-"Barking, meowing, hissing, or other animal noises"
-"licking oneself"
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT relating to the display of and allowance for non-human behaviors 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 in Texas schools. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. This bill may be referred to as the Forbidding Unlawful Representation of Roleplaying in Education or F.U.R.R.I.E.S Act. SECTION 2. Section 31.007, Education Code, is amended by amending Subsections (a) and (b) to read as follows: (a) The board of trustees of an independent school district shall, with the advice of its district-level committee established under Subchapter F, Chapter 11, adopt a student code of conduct for the district. The student code of conduct must be posted and prominently displayed at each school campus or made available for review at the office of the campus principal. In addition to establishing standards for student conduct, the student code of conduct must: (1) specify the circumstances, in accordance with this subchapter, under which a student may be removed from a classroom, campus, disciplinary alternative education program, or vehicle owned or operated by the district; (2) specify conditions that authorize or require a principal or other appropriate administrator to transfer a student to a disciplinary alternative education program; (C) a day that the student must rehearse, perform, 1 or attend an event that would otherwise require the student to 2 dress in costume if the student is a school mascot or is involved 3 in district funded or sponsored theatre organization. 4 (6) “Non-Human Behavior” means any type of behavior or 5 accessory displayed by a student in a school district other than 6 behaviors or accessories typically displayed by a member of the 7 homo sapiens species including: 8 (A) using a litter box for the passing of stool, 9 urine, or other human byproducts; 10 (B) a personal or outward display, except during a 11 school play or by a school mascot, through surgical or superficial 12 means of features that are non-human such as: 13 (i) tails; 14 (ii) leashes, collars, other accessories 15 designed for pets; 16 (iii) fur, other than naturally occurring 17 human hair or a wig made to look like human hair; 18 (iv) artificial, animal-like ears; or 19 (v) other physiological features that have not 20 historically been assigned to the homo sapiens species through a 21 means of natural biological development; 22 (C) barking, meowing, hissing, or other animal 23 noises that are not human speech; and

‼️Texas introduces bill that would remove funding from any school where a teacher affirmed a trans child gender in any way. This includes using preferred names or pronouns.

There is no exception made even if they have parental permission.
SUBCHAPTER I. ASSISTANCE WITH SOCIAL TRANSITIONING PROHIBITED Sec. 11.401. SCHOOL DISTRICT POLICY: ASSISTANCE WITH SOCIAL TRANSITIONING PROHIBITED. (a) In this subchapter, "social transitioning" means a person's transition from the gender identity associated with the person's biological sex assigned at birth to an alternative gender identity through the adoption of a different name, different pronouns, or other expressions of gender, including clothing and hairstyles, that are: (1) typically associated with the biological sex opposite of the person's biological sex assigned at birth; and (2) intended to communicate the person's alternative gender identity. (b) The board of trustees of a school district shall adopt a policy prohibiting an employee of the district from assisting a student enrolled in the district with social transitioning, including by providing any information about social transitioning or providing guidelines intended to assist a person with social transitioning. (c) A parent of a student enrolled in the district or a district employee may report to the board of trustees of the district a suspected violation of the policy adopted under Subsection (b). The board shall investigate any suspected violation and determine whether the violation occurred. If the board determines that a district employee has assisted a student enrolled at the district with social transitioning, the board shall immediately report the violation to the commissioner. (d) If the commissioner finds on an appeal under Section 7.057 that a school district has violated this section, or if the board of trustees of a district notifies the commissioner about a violation of the district's policy adopted under Subsection (b), notwithstanding any other law, the commissioner shall withhold the funding to which the district is entitled under Chapters 46, 48, and 49 for the school year during which the violation occurred. The background here is that North Carolina voters just elected another Democratic governor, retained a Democratic state Supreme Court justice, AND broke Republicans’ supermajority in the legislature.

GOP legislators are trying to undo voters’ decisions by stripping power from Democratic officials.
