Sinophagia by @xuetingni.bsky.social is a anthology there is a fascinating overview at the beginning of Chinese horror, where it currently sits publicly in terms of the government as well, that in itself is almost as good as the stories in it.

This is like a love story between Hawkeye and Flash/Superman/Hulk set in 4th century China. Even a version of Batman ("Lord Bat") gets referenced in the heroine's favourite huaben story scripts. Some parts also reminded me of Storm Riders. 2/2

The background plot is very thin, but character rep, relationships, female rep, action and acting are very strong. If you like characters that act in gender fluid ways, go for this. I also like the xianxia and vampiric elements. 2/

As promised, I said I'd talk more about Shadow Love, which is based on the novel by none other Jiulu Feixiang (whose credit I couldn't see in the usual place in the opening credits, so I wonder how much has been changed). My views are mixed on this. 1/

Whilst I can see why the Barbican are putting this show on for Halloween, but considering its premise, it's odd, because Ghost Month has come and gone. Nevertheless, I'm delighted to see an Underworld inspired by Chinese mythology being brought to London.

Prayers For A Hungry Ghost | Barbican
Shattering, sardonic, funny and tender, this ensemble production combines horror, physical performance, live cinema and Chinese mythology to bring audiences into 'the realm of hungry ghosts'.

In the same London, at the same time at last with @emdashliu.bsky.social . It was awesome helping to perfect the cover of If Found, Return to Hell. Finally got my copy, can't wait to read it!

Happy Mid-Autumn #Festival, also known as the #MoonFestival, one of the big celebrations in Autumn for the Chinese and many other Asians. Sending traditional and contemporary pop culture greetings. To find out more about this occasion, here's my article. #culture

Lanterns carved out of pomelos are a traditional craft of well wishing for children. These jellyfish ones are a great use of any materials and light sticks you might have lying around at home, and I love this lotus lantern made out of two used plastic bottles. 2/2 #culture

A curation of this year's #misautumnfestival lanterns in China. Making your own lanterns (as per the old customs) is back in fashion, especially eco-friendly ones using recycled materials. Like this gorgeous lunar scene lantern, made out of cardboard boxes and packaging. 1/ #moonfestival #lanterns

Hi #KidLitArtPostcard day! I’m a Korean illustrator based in the UK. I illustrate PB-MG, & love working on folktales, food, and stories about finding a new home & friends.

Agent: Susan Hawk (Upstart Crow Literary)
New agent announcement illustration in traditional Korean minhwa style. A Korean girl in hanbok riding on the back of a roaring tiger is greeting a three-legged crow on a pine tree. The writing in a red square in traditional stamp style says “Repped by Upstart Crow.”

Thanks! But it's not Halloween yet, we've been gearing up for Mid-Autumn or Moon Festival, a major annual celebration of harvest, plenty and union in China, across many regions in Asia and for the diaspora. And it's only a couple of days away. #culture

Hard to talk about Chinese monsters without mentioning the 僵尸 jiangshi, the indigenous undead closer to zombies than vampires. They don't have to be lugubrious and gangling. Pardon the pun, but it's a no brainer to put Ghoulia (one of my favourites from Monster High) into a jiangshi outfit. 7/7

The artwork is by the brilliant Fuzhou Chinese horror artist and illustrator known as Insist. 2/2

Excellent story inspired by Chinese lunar mythology, Chang'E Persists by Joseph Brant, published in SFRA Review's Spring issue. It's the perfect #SFF read this time of the year, this year, when we have Mid-Autumn Festival and (Western) spooky season so close together. sfrareview.org/2025/01/27/c...

So Mcdonald's have been doing loads with Black Myth: Wukong for Mid-Autumn and Golden Week, including the "Moon Burger", the weird "battle robe" bathrobe, a ttg and a whole promo donghua shoehorning themselves into ancient China. youtu.be/1wn_zuaORWY?...

Thank you! This is one of the best testimonies I've had so far for Sinophagia. I'm hoping to bring more of these writers' works into English ! #books #SFF

I bought Sinophagia because I loved Sinopticon! I spent my life thinking I didn't like horror, when actually I just don't like it when it's written by white American men (shrugmoji)

#Asian foodies! Noodle nerds! My 1st attempt at #rollfornoodles, where I let the dice decide my dinner. It's only fitting to use my first set of TT dice, with the cute 😸 prints...join me, in a bowl of noodles!
