I’m profoundly sad to say that as of today, I’ll no longer be able to do my job as co-artistic director of #Touretteshero because of a recent decision by #AccessToWork to cut my support by 61%. Read & share this post, the hardest I've had to write: www.touretteshero.com/2025/05/23/a... 1/4

This is really important, not least considering our discussion yesterday @blindspothannah.bsky.social and @ihereyounowthis.bsky.social about the need to recognise critical disability studies as a discipline in #AHRC funding applications.

For the morning crowd - please do sign and share. Every single one of my former #DisabilityStudies colleagues at Liverpool Hope is at risk of redundancy. This isn't just about individuals; it's a threat to the field itself.

Jill Pluquailec of Sheffield Hallam has organised an open letter laying out the impact on #DisabilityStudies as a field - please do share and sign [add a comment with your info]

The last University of Westminster PhD residential writing retreat of the year, at the Abbey Sutton Courtenay. A magical combination of relaxation, productivity and conversation (with yoga and walks).
A very tall Christmas tree lights a large hall with a vaulted ceiling, bathing it it a white lights. Yoga mats are laid out on the floor, each with someone seated on it. A photo so smiling people outside, with Tudor buildings in the background.

Okay FINE, we'll share our photo of the Deal Man. He seems to be appearing all over the place? He wandered in front of the camera when we were taking a photo of the building the other day. Rude.
Photograph of Sandwich Guildhall, with blue sky behind it and shadows across the square in front. In the foreground is the Deal Man, an Iron Age chalk figurine.

Explore what archaeology can tell us about Roman ideas about health and disability.

Portrait poster for the exhibition Mapping an Uneven Path: Stories of Health and Disability at Verulamium. In the foreground an illustration of a Roman man with a bandaged leg and walking staff walks along a jagged path. In the background, several other illustrated characters - such as a doctor, a mother and child - stand behind a green mist. Some butterflies float around the image. A tabletop case containing a number of museum artefacts and labels. They include a small metal votive foot, some coins depicting the Roman goddess Salus, and a 20th century prayer card from a psychiatric hospital. Two portrait panels on a wall with colourful illustrations. One depicts her mother handing her child to a wet-nurse. The other depicts two Roman veterans; one with a prosthetic arm, the other with scars along his back. Label in a display case showing some Roman bath tiles. The label is written by a disabled person, and talks about physical access to the baths and body image in the Roman world.
