Great guest blog by our Senior Producer Nisha on Epilepsy & organists. One of the complexities of living with brain conditions is that it's also where so much of who we are is located. Navigating the reality of this can be practically & emotionally complex: www.touretteshero.com/2025/09/01/l...

When it works properly & I can remember a time when it did #AccessToWork is liberating & transformative. I want to make it absolutely clear that disabled people are here to stay, that our lives, experiences, skills and imaginations matter & we are not disposable. 2/2

I've not been able to do my job for the last 3 months because of a DWP decision to cut my #AccessToWork support. This week I received a letter reinstating my support, while this is good news for me there are many others still affected by cuts & delays touretteshero.com/safe/2025/07... 1/2
We Are Not Disposable
A couple of weeks ago some colleagues and I gathered round a phone in the Touretteshero office to speak to my newly allocated caseworker from the Department for Work and Pensions about my Access to Wo...

I don't know Jess personally, but for pretty much the entire time I've been working professionally she has been widely regarded as a valued and respected figure in the British theatre sector. That it has taken a Labour government to force her out of work is an indelible mark of shame.

Channel 4 news interviewing Jess Thom who cannot continue working due to cuts in Access to Work funding.

It was Jess’ organisation, @touretteshero.bsky.social that enabled my learning disabled son, to perform at the Southbank in London.

The cuts in support for #disabled people must stop.

Family coercion is one risk, the much bigger risk, in a society that often fails to comprehend the reality of sick & disabled lives, is systemic coercion. There’s a lot of talk of ‘choice in death’ but many of us don’t have choice over how we live 3/3

I’m worried this will make my support much more expensive and I may be pressured to move to residential care - loosing my home as a result. This is the context in which #AssistedDying is being discussed. 2/3

I’ve been vocal about the impact the cuts to my Access To Work support have had on my job. I haven’t explained publicly my biggest fear - I’ve lost 45hrs of support a week and if this isn’t reinstated I’ll have to go back to #SocialCare & #NHS to cover these lost hours 1/3

The only thing preventing Jess from working is Keir Starmer.

Keir Starmer says Labour is the party of work, equality and fairness, but less than a year after the election, changes at the Department for Work and Pensions have forced me to stop doing the job I love. The full video can be found here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxpq... #AccessToWork

With the cut to my #AccessToWork support meaning I can’t do my job & impacting creative projects, it’s been a while since I felt excited & moved by theatre but experiencing the #RelaxedPerformance of #MatildaMusical with my niece this afternoon was the reminder I needed.
