Warm wishes on this bright and beautiful Christmas Eve morning.

Only one case on tonight’s PZC agenda, a drive-through at the BP on North Aurora/Ogden. The gas station is grandfathered in as an existing non-conforming use. Since they're asking to put in a drive-thru restaurant, it triggers PZC approval for conditional use.

Wrapping up 2025! And the Data Center is NOT on this agenda; the elves shelved it to January.

Here are some stocking stuffers that caught my eye::
1. Renewable Energy Program- $280K for 2026 grants

Even with my experience on City Council, I had a lot to learn as a new Planning & Zoning Commissioner. I thought I’d share some high-level information I used to get up to speed.

At an Embrace Naperville panel in Oct 2023, students shared how much they value intergenerational conversations. On 12/6, that idea comes to life with a student-organized round-robin event at the Nichols Library. Seniors & students can trade stories, ask questions, & enjoy learning from each other.

Sim Racing in the High Grove Plaza shopping center is the only case on tonight’s PZC agenda. Two things to review: Conditional Use and a zoning variance.

Not too long of an agenda for Tuesday, but a good one!
Some interesting items:
1. eBike ordinance! It had its first reading on 11/4. No one asked for any changes.

The third of three budget workshops is Monday (6pm) and will cover the Operating Budget and Capital Improvement Overview. Staff was disciplined in their approach to this year’s balanced budget, reducing overall operating and capital expenses and keeping an eye on long-term trends.

What a difference a day makes! I was excited to see that the Healing Field was back on Rotary Hill for the first time since 2019, and took my run up the hill to recognize our Veterans. Thank you to everyone who’s served.

The 2nd of 3 budget workshops is Tues 6p. Staff did a fantastic job keeping a balanced budget of $685.13M. This year’s theme is the alliterative “Money with a Mission” & focuses on 5 trends: moderating revenues, aging assets, state legislation, staff investment, & national/global financial climate.

I’ll be back on the dais Wednesday for my first Planning & Zoning (PZC) meeting. Three items on the agenda. It could be a long meeting.

SECA has come up at recent Council meetings. As the former council liaison, I have experience with the process. City staff and commissioners dedicate hours & hours of work to ensure a transparent and robust review. I covered a number of FAQs on my website.

Whoops! I missed mentioning the Sidewalk Program in my recap for tomorrow’s meeting. It’s buried in the Consent Agenda but will likely get some discussion. Most of the locations are in walking/running distance from my house so I checked them out before the September TAB meeting.
October 7, 2025 at 2:15 AM
Oh boy! There are a bunch of developments on tomorrow’s agenda. And… My appointment to PZC is up for approval, too! I’m allowed to serve in an appointed role, so I applied for the vacancy. (Clemen resigned in July.)

There are 3 projects that will get discussion.
1. Reserves of Saddle Creek.
