This is why I've been a bit doubtful about well-meaning attempts to argue against "heritage American" as if it's a serious proposition, rebutting it a bit too much like it's amenable to rational debate. Yes, I lived it firsthand in your country. My neighbours there initially considered me an ‘exception’ and went to great lengths to try to convince your govt to allow me to stay. They got to know me and some of them changed their minds.
