Fascinated and humbled by #biodiversity. I understand it using #eDNA as CEO at SimplexDNA. Views and typos are my own. She/her(s).

To move beyond this we can not just compare methods per se, but rather ask when is it better for other reasons like ethics (e.g., not lethal or causes less harm) or determine if the error does not change the action. Etc.

Thanks so much for posting this question. It shows an important assumption, which is what we do now or traditionally is the 'truth' to which any new methods are compared. What is true is ALL methods have error. Comparing apples to oranges will result in the conclusion that they are different.

Polls are not easy here, but curious if the #eDNA community can comment on what sequencing platform you use most for your metabarcoding work?

Well a new adventure is about to start! This week was my first as fulltime CEO at SimplexDNA. I am excited to have made the jump from academia to empower the use of #eDNA technology throughout the world. While lots of papers will come out from my ETH years, I say goodbye to the 'Professor' title

💯 fab work @marinednadude.bsky.social + team on minimim reporting for #metabarcoding. At Natural England, we’re building on this to create a readiness framework for #metabarcoding assays, and mobilising DNA data with partners. All key to ⬆️ useability + reliability of DNA data! 💪🏻 🧬 stay tuned 👀

Timely and important paper on guidelines for workflows and reporting of #eDNA #metabarcoding data. Hugely relevant to ongoing discussions within #ukeof #ukdnawg about standards and data mobilisation @lynseyrharper.bsky.social @danread.bsky.social

The first pre-print from Jake Jackman's PhD on #eDNA monitoring of the River Mersey, UK. We compare multiple filter types across a saline gradient (marine to freshwater) in a strongly tidal estuary. All filters generally work well, including the passive metaprobe! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
