Heads up: if you see my National Park Monsters calendar promoted on Facebook or Instagram and it’s not through my account - it’s probably counterfeit. More below.
A promoted ad on Facebook selling a counterfeit copy of Alternate Histories' "National Park Monsters Calendar" on a dubiously named website "Leaderiship"

Also your fun reminder that Prince was such a Joni Mitchell fan he wrote a song for the Time called "Ice Cream Castles," which also became the name of one of their albums, and is also probably my favorite Time song

Insane to say this when Joni Mitchell, Smokey Robinson, Dolly Parton, and Tom Waits are all still alive.

I also need to know: I am fairly middle-of-the-road on Taylor Swift but someone I know called her the Greatest Living Lyricist. She is not.

Who is yours? Either the greatest or your favorite?

Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,
, just so
other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it.
Gross. And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.

Like, no one was greedier than Berry Gordy, but his success depending on having writers craft memorable songs to be sung by talented artists. That desire pushed Motown very hard, but it also produced "Dancing in the Streets" so you know, fair enough

And for someone like Swift, who has literally zero limitations in her life and art, it is telling what kind of album she chooses to release and how she chooses to promote it.
alternatehistories.bsky.social
But the general thesis here; that Swift's art has become another way for her to market herself and dominate social media, I think is correct. The music is no longer the point; it's a means to an end.
alternatehistories.bsky.social
I will slightly disagree to say that some of the greatest pop music ever made was created by artists under pressure to strike while the iron is hot (see: The Beatles, much of Motown's output in the 1960s, a lot of Disco, etc). Great art is often made and shaped by limitations, including time.

Last year we raised $465; this year between the magazines and the 10% my goal is to double that number! Stop by the Studio any Friday or Saturday from 12-5pm!

For the month of October, we’ll be donating 10% of all our sales to Pittsburgh Against Against Rape. This ties in with a donation that started last year during our VHS Pop-Up; a friend donated a bunch of old movie magazines to the studio and we decided to sell them and donate the proceeds to PAAR /

Today's the day for the Grand Opening! Come join us in Greenfield!
alternatehistories.bsky.social
Every October for Halloween I transform my studio into a retro VHS rental place with tapes for sale from vintage friends; it's a ton of work and so much fun. The Grand Opening is this Saturday, 12-4pm with vintage horror paperback seller The Bookubus and I'd love it if you came! 517 Greenfield Ave.

If you were disappointed by the recent release from an unnamed billionaire, might I suggest Say She She's CUT & REWIND, which also released yesterday and is a stunning, danceable mix of disco, soul, and breathtaking vocals?

I am literally begging people to read this account of Fetterman's behavior as Mayor of Braddock BEFORE the stroke, senator, Lt. Gov, all of it. This is who he is, at his core: a wealthy opportunist cosplaying as a working class tough guy

Tapping the "locals in Pittsburgh knew all this before the election" sign again. Dude was constantly defensive, wouldn't apologize, wouldn't attend city council meetings of the city he was mayor of. All the indications were there and lots of us said so loudly and we were all told to shut it.
daveweigel.bsky.social
I do think more PA Dems would put up w Fetterman if he was just casting heterodox votes. You don't see people raging that Angus King voted for the CR.

The issue is Fetterman constantly going to Fox News cameras to trash Dems and create unhelpful stories. There was never an indication he'd do that.
pensandlighters.bsky.social
As a PA Dem, I’ve rarely felt more betrayed politically than by Fetterman. He ran as a Bernie-style Dem in 2018 and I was happy he was made Lt. Gov, where he often signaled support for liberal causes.

He didn’t mention a desire to move right at all when he campaigned for his seat in ‘22.

Can we stop calling an artificial representation of a person by a human-coded name? "She" does not exist. "She" is a reflection of someone's ingenue dreams, but "she" is pixels and code.

Sam Cooke actually did this in 1961 when he founded his own record label (SAR Records) and publishing company because the industry kept stealing from him.

Taylor Swift turned masters ownership from a behind-the-scenes conversation into a mainstream debate about artist autonomy. But how has that fight influenced other artists in the music industry?
