Last year, I wrote a book about teaching musical concepts through popular music in the K–20 classrooms. If that is your kind of thing, you can purchase it as a downloadable here through the fabulous publisher F-Flat Books.

I’m already submitted on the panel end, which is very exciting. Now we wait (& figure out a spring hustle so I can afford to go to Montreal & hopefully also Chicago next summer).

Just submitted paper & poster presentations for ISME 2026 (in Montreal). Please let’s not go to war with Canada before next summer, I’m begging you.

Tenho muitos alunos do Brasil e adoro quando eles me ensinam mais sobre música.

You can't peacefully coexist with bigots

Bigots don't want to peacefully coexist

Bigots want to enhance their status & self-esteem by harming others

If they can't openly get their fix, they'll seek sly ways of harming others & play it in the victims' face

This playbook is ancient, folks

I like Bluesky & I don't want to migrate to another site but the owners seem to have a pattern of taking minority users for granted.

Unless leadership has a word with itself & corrects course, bigots will keep manufacturing conflict for attention+💰 & Bluesky will eventually become diet Xitter

Brazilian music BlueSky has found this & it makes me happy. 💖 ☺️

Quero que os fãs de música brasileira saibam que eu os aprecio!

I also need to know: I am fairly middle-of-the-road on Taylor Swift but someone I know called her the Greatest Living Lyricist. She is not.

Who is yours? Either the greatest or your favorite?
rebelmusicteach.bsky.social
While I can appreciate Dylan, I will say (and have said elsewhere before) while I can that I think Dolly Parton is a better songwriter than Bob Dylan.
ferrellslaw.bsky.social
The greatest living lyricist is Bob Dylan. He's written approximately 600 songs over the past 64 years and he is the most influential songwriter of that period. Dylan's complex body of work won the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature, a 2001 Academy Award for Best Original Song, and ten Grammy Awards.

I’m not even a believer but I will pray for Dolly to the God she believes in.

Newsom is a quisling, and is a perfect example of why U.S. democracy is doomed. He’s actively blocking protections for some of his most vulnerable constituents!

George is my favorite Beatle by a long way!!

Please note this is not intended to be a dig at Swift herself. You’ve gotta give her credit where credits is due.

Honestly That Thing You Do! is one of my favorite movies & it was definitely not on my extensive pandemic watchlist because I’m going to bawl all the way through.

Have been surprised no one has said Stipe yet. He may not be my favorite lyricist but he is an absolute master of prosody, every word sounds just like he’s talking to you on the phone.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

I spent the whole rainy summer with the album & I grew with it, saw them in concert that August (also with my mom) & now I think of it far more fondly. Probably the album that resulted in more emotional growth than any other for me.

I genuinely love a few of her songs but this is pretty much how I feel.

I knew there was a J.Lew response hiding away somewhere. And I totally agree.
