We measure the attention that research outputs receive from policy documents, mainstream news outlets, Wikipedia, social media and online reference managers. We detect sentiment of Bluesky/X posts.

Come for the attention to research. Stay for the memes.
X/Twitter's rough full volume is around 500 total million posts every day, or 182 (and a half) billion posts per year.

By contracts, we found 11.2 million research posts in all of 2025 on there.

In other words, 0.000006% of Twitter appears to be sharing research. Basically zero.

Since Jan 1 2025, which feels like four trillion years ago, research has been shared on here 5 million whole-ass times. Bluesky recently passed 2 billion posts IN TOTAL.

So 0.25% of the entire site's traffic was citations to research.

That is actually massively high. Is it? Yes. Here's why.

The first full year of tracking research on @bsky.app

Hi, we are Altmetric, and we track how research is communicated across the web.

We now have one full calendar year of Bluesky research data and thought we'd have a looksie.

Aug 28: we announce new policy sources all the time, but we took this opportunity to inject some gothic noir madness into the announcement:

Jul 18: We made a thread about impostors in the research community by creating our own fake Altmetric account. This was then immediately flagged by Bluesky as an impostor until we let them know it was in fact us ROFL.

April Fools Day: we announce that we can now read minds, are collaborating with @bolloc-ks.bsky.social and change our profile pic to Futurama's Hypnotoad, prompting stern messages from our marketing dept lol. We didn't run any of it by them first.

Not to rub too much salt in @elsevierconnect.bsky.social's wound but they would have caught this earlier if they had been using Altmetric.

9. Could the shingles vaccine help to prevent dementia?

One of the many good news developments of 2025 went viral on Bluesky more than Twitter.

8. Bridging the gap: explainable ai for autism diagnosis and parental support with TabPFNMix and SHAP

This "runctitional" fever dream was published in Scientific reports. We present above all the staggeringly bewildering AI image of "autism" complete with bicycle.

6. Acetaminophen Use During Pregnancy and Children’s Risk of Autism, ADHD, and Intellectual Disability

Pour one out for the Twitter users fighting the good fight against misinfo. This 2024 article found new life when RFK Jnr and Trump singled out Tylenol as the underlying cause of autism.

4. The Marc Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company Effect on Urogynecologic Drugs

Bluesky elder @mcuban.bsky.social's work on generics was analysed by researchers. They concluded the program would have saved $1.29 billion in 2020 Medicare costs.

Extremely positively shared.

This piece demonstrated that Bluesky already had practical parity with Twitter in JANUARY 2025 because this article went viral on both platforms with practically identical velocity and ceiling. The difference between the 2 platforms is only about 1k posts.

They called this vortex of factors "The strain on Scientific Publishing".

There are actually 3 entries for this piece, as Hanson and his co-authors are actual Open Science GOATs and released the scripts &data and the figures on (sister company) @figshare.com when the article was published.
