Following the latest first snow and the longest streak of snowless days in Lincoln, it's certainly been a slow start to the season.

The rest of the state is facing the same thing, with more of a snow drought through northern Nebraska.

Swath of snow moves across the state on Thursday. Might drop a half inch of snow for some. May slicken up the roads, too.

Broken band of light snow showers will move in by the second part of Thursday.

We aren't talking much snow with this. Most will see up to a dusting. Those with a little more snow from last weekend, it would be easier for them to pick up a couple tenths of an inch from this.

1032AM: Icing happening as far east as Kearney/Gibbon and Axtell. Freezing drizzle is spreading east and could arrive around noon today.

511 maps can tell you what roads are seeing ice, too! Look at purple shaded roads in SW and central Nebraska, and that's spreading east. #NEwx

SNOWFALL POTENTIAL

Snow is likely across the state starting as early as Friday evening for northern Nebraska, then the rest of the state Saturday into Sunday morning.

The best chance is in far SE Nebraska into Kansas. We still have a couple of days to tweak these numbers, so stay tuned!

December 15th was the 3-year anniversary of a late-season tornado outbreak/derecho in Nebraska. There were 27 tornadoes across Nebraska, including one EF-2 closer to Dorchester and Lincoln.

High winds were bad even after the storms, gusting ~60-80 mph.

There are two interesting aspects of our current snow drought: The unusually late first snowfall after Summer (The latest first snowfalls are listed below. lincolnweather.unl.edu/data/First-S... ) AND, The record length of our 2024 snow-free season (last snowfall, Jan. 18, 333 days ago).
