Absolutely thrilled to share the cover to next year's short story collection coming out from @tordotcom.bsky.social! I'm obsessed with it!

Comes out March 24, 2026, but you can pre-order it now wherever you like getting your books! Here's Macmillan's link.

On a gradient background that goes from blush-pink at the top to a muddy green at the bottom, a book cover. Super-imposed on a pastoral, oil-painting style image depicting a forested foreground and a hilly background beneath a soft champagne sky, is superimposed a 3-dimensional rhomboid-shape, the facets of which play with space. One facet shows a pale cloudy sky, and from it, a brown hare emerges chasing the hind legs and bushy tail of a wolf, the rest of which vanishes out of the rhomboid frame. The rhomboid's other facets -- which create the kind of infinity loop of an Escher painting -- are either blush-pink or covered in the greenery from the background. Above the rhomboid is the title, and the subtitle "Stories"; below it are the words New York Times Bestselling & Award-winning Author Amal El-Mohtar. My name and the word "Stories" are in the same blush-pink as the rhomboid's facets.

A good upper body day, both workout & selfie wise.
Mirror selfie in a changing room. I’m looking down at my phone held chest height in both hands, wearing a grey tank top that reads “I am their fury, I am their patience, I am a conversation” from Steven Universe in pale blue and dark pink lettering. My arms and shoulders look pretty great.

Getting to show you all this cover and announce that VILLAIN is officially coming out in May of next year is such a joy and a relief i don't even know how to express it.

the cover for a book entitled Villain by Natalie Zina Walschots. the cover is a bright magenta with dark blue and teal lettering for the title, and the author's name is in yellow. there is an image of the silhouette of a woman carrying a cane, surrounded by the silhouettes of five superheroes.

all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.

I do think some novellas are also long short stories!! Wordcount is such an imprecise measure for dimension/depth/layers tbh

This was very satisfying to work through but also I think a touch harder than I’ve expected from “medium”!

There are many goals—to undercut authors working from the margins, to take access away from young readers who do not yet have full agency over their lives, and especially to dismantle institutions that empower and provide access for the public! They’re all worth addressing!

I get frustrated with best-selling authors being like “It’s banned books week, buy my book” because one major portion of the project of book bans is administrative overload! It’s to make the job of being a public librarian or teacher feel exceedingly difficult and not worth the trouble!

It’s Banned Books Week, and I don’t need you to buy my book as a solve for it (but buy it if you want to! That’s still extremely cool of you)—I need you to show up for your public libraries and your schools!

Congratulations and I can’t recommend it enough. Not only is the book amazing, but Vico Ortiz delivers a world-class performance on the audiobook. I can’t count the number of times I forgot they were doing all the characters by themself. A great read/listen all around.

perhaps the biggest story TFPever ran was a catastrophically shoddy argument that George Floyd ackshully died of an overdose. When confronted with irrefutable evidence that the piece was simply wrong, Weiss didn’t take it down, she asked her critic, @radleybalko.bsky.social, to come on a podcast.

history teacher in 50 years: So in September, that’s when the president signed an executive order criminalizing anti-fascism and saying all resistance would be crushed

student: oh so that’s when the whole country realized they were living under fascism

teacher: haha what? oh no lol not at all. no.
