Autism is not what we have been led to believe
Your child's repetitive language isn't wrong. It's part of their unique journey to self-generated speech. The Natural Language Acquisition protocol shows us that with patience and support, they develop complete grammar systems… just through a different path.
Trust the process. Honor their language.

Autistic SLPs who are gestalt processors themselves say they can intuitively understand the emotional connections behind their clients' scripts 💬
The Natural Language Acquisition protocol centers trust, connection, and honoring ALL communication—including echolalia.

For the past century, American culture has been seeped in the ideals of behaviorism, which denies the existence of an inner reality. In other words, whatever is going on mentally with a person can be understood directly through their behavior...

Autistic people may be a minority, but I see them as the canary in the coal mine. Their struggles stem from an inability to cope with a false role in a false life within a false society. They are sensitive to behaviorist policies and environmental toxins, which are ever increasing in our world.

I’m blown away by the Intense World Theory of autism. It explains so much, and I feel that it offers a positive perspective from which to view my struggles.

Every accusation is a confession.

Don't take it personally.

Ever wondered why autism can be described in seemingly contradictory ways? The understanding and meaning of the condition completely flipped in the mid-20th century. It was easier to deny the existence of an inner life than to include subjective criteria in large-scale studies.

Autistic people who have taken part in ABA are 86% more likely to experience PTSD than those who have not. It's child abuse.

Rejection sensitivity is said to be an erroneous assumption that rejection has occurred. But the reality is that people with these conditions ARE rejected quite often, even by family. Then they are told that the rejection they experienced isn't real but all in their head…

So I can't be #autistic because I can make eye contact. Ok, but what if my version of eye contact shakes people to the very core of their soul?

"Providing a treatment that causes pain in exchange for no benefit, even if unknowingly, is tantamount to torture and violates the most basic requirement of any therapy, to do no harm."
Today in Hell Yes, Research! Despite decades of use on non-speaking autistics, research shows that ABA therapy has never been even SLIGHTLY useful to them.

A damning article by Gary Shkedy, Dalia Shkedy & Aileen H. Sandoval-Norton.

Telling victims of trauma and abuse that they are mentally ill takes the blame from the rightful party and places it squarely on the shoulders of the victim.

We have to do better.

Clinical forms with boxes to check and numerical scales. That’s how autistic people are understood through research. Is it any wonder that misperceptions regarding a lack of empathy and theory of mind persist?

The originator of behaviorism used his ideas in raising his four children. All had physical and mental ailments, three attempted suicide, one was successful. Why are these principles so prevalent in schools and the mental health industry?

Not all #autistic traits are caused by differences in the brain. #ABA and related therapy use operant conditioning. This can cause prompt-dependency, an inability to decipher social cues, and communicative oddities--all currently attributed to #autism.

Yes, I have deficits due to autism. But I have strengths, too! A little more emphasis on our strengths would go a long way in reducing the impact that deficits have on our lives.

I hate it when someone mispercieves me or what I'm doing. I know those misperceptions stick. Its hard to move past the habit of trying to correct it, but explanations rarely change the minds of others. Use that energy elsewhere.
