No, they're organic. But they have powersuits and giant mecha.

One last novel to finish out the year: Beneathe Strange Lights by @itsviviactually.bsky.social is transgender Nancy Drew by way of Lovecraft. It’s a quick read and a lot of fun, and the first in a series.

Corgi for scale.

What was your biggest impact on the internet?

I accidentally made “Zoe” the most popular transfemme name for a solid five years.

Median home ownership was actually lower in 1991 than it is today!

Which hopefully puts into perspective how mind-bendingly difficult Admiral Holdo’s hyperspace ramming maneuver was from the Last Jedi to pull off at a range of only a few hundred kilometers.

Still re-reading Heir to the Empire, and I want to be a massive nerd for a second. The text calls out three-thousandths of a lightyear (about three billion kilometers) as being so short that it’s difficult to make as a hyperspace jump…

And they could have said Psionic if they wanted a non-vancian caster! Psionics have been in the game since 1978!

Mixed Feelings comes out in April of 2026 from Scholastic Books, and I recommend going to your local bookstore or comic shop to pre-order a copy. It’s a quick read and a book that I think will leave you slightly better as a person.

The artwork is perfect at every step. Sara is a weird goblin of a girl (like a lot of us) and her expressions are so evocative. It would have been easy to take her stylized reactions too far but instead they’re clear and endearing.

(Most of my preview copy is B&W, but the final will be full color)

The story works so well because on a deeper level about hitting puberty and life getting complicated as you start to realize you aren’t and can’t be exactly what everyone expects, through the lens of not being “enough.” It shows how you start the hard work of defining yourself.

On the surface, it’s exactly what the back of the book describes: an autobiographical account of Sara growing up as a mixed-race Colombian/Persian girl in Houston. The story is written to thoughtfully that you immediately empathize with Sara’s experiences regardless of your own heritage.

My wife really loves me and my weird little special interests

At some point in the last few years we as a society collectively decided that Santa Fucks.

Reskeet with your childhood “this is obviously an egg and I hope they’re happy now” emotional support character.

I hope Tino from Weekenders has transitioned and is happy now…

If you were a lesbian barista in the 00s, there is a 99% chance a disgruntled born-again customer called you an “oat blender.”

If you want a more polite term to call patty than “bull duke,” there’s always “colossal crunch.”

“Fruity Dino Bite” is something a 90’s bully shouts as he shoves the new kid into a garbage can.
December 24, 2025 at 4:24 AM
“You hear about Liza?”
“You mean about the divorce? Yeah, yeah. What happened there?”
“Turns out Frank was, y’know… a frosted mini spooner.”

OH COME ON!

And I am 99% sure I knew a baby bear in college who called himself a “honey nut scooter.”

And I don’t think a more pitch-perfect roaring ‘20s expression for a gay man has ever existed than “Apple zing”.
December 24, 2025 at 4:13 AM
I swear to god, every Malt-o-Meal generic cereal name sounds like old-timer slang for gay people.

You can’t tell me no one in the 1970s wasn’t referring to their gay neighbors as the “marshmallow mateys”

Over 30 selfie thread.

I’m… jeezus, how old am I again? 45? 47? Definitely over 40…
