This week's Martin finale goes out to @chaoticauthor.online. The man needs your help. He's bored, in a hospital, and low on the green. Send him messages and use this link to brighten his day. Without Matt, you'd never get to read my corny jokes. HORROR!

Thanks for another awesome chat everyone! Also, Little White Flowers is now out in hardcover, and it is beautiful! Forgot to grab a picture before chat started (and I cannot get up from my blanket cocoon), but the case laminate under the dust jacket has the full art cover image.

No surprise for those who read A Survivor's Eye, but my favourite place for ghosts is in your very body; the whisper in your ear, the shadow that lays in the corner of your eye, the pit in your stomach. They are your best and worst essence taking a shape all of their own.

Now, let us begin! Let the flutes bleat and the trumps blare, snatching all the souls of the living away! What are your favourite haunts? Mausoleums? Lavish estates? What secrets do their wraiths protect within?
#HorrorWritersChat
Art by Jelle Husson, featuring a haunted monastery of many sharp-tipped towers scraping at the midnight sky. The largest is in the centre of the structure’s roof, whose walls are painted white. The monastery is located above a hilly terrain of dark stone and dark green moss. A stony, twisting road leads to the monastery.

Question Two

Ah, the performance has begun! Behold the souls of the living darting into the flutes and trumpets! Now, as you sip your ectoplasmic wine, tell us – what are your favourite locations for ghosts? And why?

The moment you entered the graveyard, the scrape of ancient stone shadowed your ears. Your heart hammered your ribcage as you sprinted toward the tomb perched at the top of the hill. No!

A heavy mist drifted from the vault, and you sank to your knees. Too late.

Come forth, Baron Crescendo! Let your guitar split the sky open, for more wraiths to dazzle us!

Behold, a note from him, for you!

“The moment you entered the graveyard, the scrape of ancient stone shadowed your ears.”

Finish it! With word of rhyme, before we dance to the end!

There he is! Baron Crescendo! Oh how the skies split open to his guitar, how more of us fly in the air! And look, a note from him, just for you!

“The moment you entered the graveyard, the scrape of ancient stone shadowed your ears.”

Well? Go on! Word or rhyme, continue his Muse!

I favor the folkloric ghosts—the ones whispered about behind church pews and in hollow places, passed down and patched over generations. Yet I love when an author peels that fabric back and lets the old haunt breathe through something new.

Listen to the Symposium’s finest vocalist, as their tenor bends the living into unnatural angles and swivels them into the air! Tell us, what ghosts do you prefer? Of the folkloric tradition, or those invented by authors? And why?

It is always a delight to see our violinists perform! How the living bend their splintering bones as they float above us all! Tell us, our ghostly compatriots – which of us are better? Of the folkloric kind? Or invented by our shadowy creators?

I'm not going to get into the business of ranking ghosts. That's how you call down an eldritch haunting that crosses generations. I love them all equally, like a good mom. #horrorwriterschat

Both can be great, depending on how they are written. I'll go for whatever kind of ghost the author needs to tell the story. Although the majority of my favorite ghost novels involved ghosts dreamed up by the author.

The Maine woods, although I'm also a huge fan of creepy houses. Woods because you never know what you'll find there. There's a whole junkyards worth of rusted out cars in the woods near my favorite walking trail.

Book 1:

Due to the fire damage to the jail in the town hall, the sheriff was using the church's old meeting room as a makeshift holding cell. Even if [the sheriff] had stationed a guard, as long as they were sympathetic or at least bribable, [he] might be able to secure [her] freedom.

The 90s story is a Fear Street-style horror/thriller with a strong mystery component. Intended both for contemporary teens and for adults looking for some 90s nostalgia.
