Don’t let them steal your peace of mind

Keep loving and living

They hate that

If you’re upset about Michelle Obama’s decision not to attend Donald Trump’s inauguration, wait until I tell you about the time Donald Trump refused to accept the results of the election he lost, plotted a coup & incited an insurrection before deciding not to attend Joe Biden’s.

Not going to pretend to be surprised about this because I wrote a book about January 6. But yes—if you were wondering—the most malevolent criminal in US political history is about to be POTUS in 6 days. It's an unimaginable situation, essentially a living nightmare, and very few fully comprehend it.

Fact-checking wasn’t “biased” against conservatives. Conservatives just shared more false content. If there’s a sportsball game and one team fouls four times as much, it’s not “biased” for the ref to call four times as many fouls against that team.
🚨In Nature🚨
Meta is dropping fact-checking to avoid anti-conservative bias- but is there actually evidence of bias?
We this test empirically & find that conservatives
* ARE suspended more
* BUT share more misinfo
So suspension isn't necessarily evidence of bias www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Differences in misinformation sharing can lead to politically asymmetric sanctions - Nature
We find that conservatives tend to share more low-quality news through social media than liberals, and so even if technology companies enact politically neutral anti-misinformation policies, political...

Today is *not* a “peaceful transfer of power.” It’s the completion of a violent coup attempt that began this morning four years ago. Yes, Trump won the ‘24 election; but he was only able to run because we failed to fully confront the fact of that violent coup attempt.

“They don’t love our country, they only think about themselves” is not only a weird way to describe the standard rituals for a dead president but also a hell of a projection

I read a *lot*

I also listen to a ton of audiobooks on my commute.

Claiming that audiobooks aren’t “reading” is nonsense - you go on the same adventures, you learn the same things.

Listen to Scott Brick, Jim Dale, Kate Reading, or Michael Kramer — the experience is transcendent.
::Sigh:: Once more for the people in the back. If audiobooks don’t count as reading, then braille isn’t reading either. Stop gatekeeping literacy.

Oh, governments are allowed to invalidate elections when Russians fuck with them. Huh.
FANTASTIC NEWS! Romania’s Constitutional Court has just annulled the first round of the presidential election due to heavy Russian interference. The second round will not take place on Sunday and the first round will be re-run. The electoral authorities will have to validate all candidates again.

All democracies should have regularly rehearsed contingency plans for successfully repelling domestic attempts to overthrow democracy.

With aspirational autocrats increasing trying to seize power, we shouldn't discover how resilient our democracies are only at the point when they face overthrow.
