Writer & muck-a-rounder in the kitchen & in the bookshelves: licks, sucks & chews (with preference for the fatty, chewy and crunchy bits).

Reasonably new to Lutruwita/Tasmania.
That's a bit awful. There's something in that about no carrots and just sticks. That's really awful. I wish I could feed every kid who needs food. It should be, that simple?

Eh heh heh re the stringers. I still have a soft spot for Babybels and I don't actually like the cheese, it's a nostalgia thing I bow to every now and then.

I know this might sound a bit basic, but a jar is basically a cup with a lid. A bottle of passata is a great shape for a water jar.

If there were a more inclusive and thoughtful welfare system you'd be darned sure that there would be fewer homeless people and confused crime. 'Confused crime' is the sheer number of people unable to access help and turn to petty crime etc etc to cope in the best way they can.

Treating welfare of all sorts payments as anything but care (it's not admin, it should not be punitive), is a disservice to both the professionals who have to be a sounding board for distress and a navigator for often a confusing process, and people who are in heightened tension.

That's incredible. Watching People Vs Robodebt I was in awe of some of the people who clearly knew their stuff and were obviously people who cared. I agree, that this is a place where people applying and dealing with these things are at their most vulnerable.

Yeah the scripts are actually confusing. I'm a bloody good communicator and even I get tangled in the script jargon: ok, so what do I need to do? Why did this happen? Huh?

I have never met someone who wants to have anything to do with Centrelink, just people who need that support at times.

It is one of the worst wastes of money. People without jobs aren't the problem. They aren't. And when Tasmania catches up to AI job losses as the mainland is beginning we have to have a better understanding of what that means.
