Correct. The order should always be: nice food, cute animals, decent people 😜

Its so grossly transparent, such an obvious fucking ruse, overtly a linguistic bait and switch and yet... we get politicians and journalists parroting it back to us. People who claim to be trained in rhetoric falling into that crudely designed word trap with reckless abandon. It's so baffling.

Thanks for the suggestion and I might check it out for myself, but I'm already transitioning a bunch of my teaching towards Godot as we need to cover 3D topics too and it seems like a good replacement!

I was genuinely shocked at just how shit Unity 6 is, especially for all the talk of how they've improved things. Like Unity 2022 is still honestly not great and takes way too long to do everything. But 6 got in the way of making things at almost every single step of the process. It was wild.

That was in *one class*, trying to show students who are new to using these tools how to make simple prototypes. We spent twice as long waiting for Unity 6 to load than we did developing. And now they've added in AI guff to Unity 6.2.

Why on earth would I ever use Unity to teach again? 🤷

13. We spend about 20 minutes actually using Unity before the class ends
14. We make a nice little scene with animation curves and simple quads
15. I try to share my code with students and my project folder is 1.5gb because Unity downloading random shit without telling me
November 15, 2025 at 2:40 PM
9. I have to wait 8 minutes for it to restart
10. It opens and Unity says "oh, you've swapped to the old input system but actually you can't do because of this other setting that so I need to reboot"
11. I have to wait for it to restart again
12. Input changed to a 'both' setting which isn't default
November 15, 2025 at 2:32 PM
6. I realise you now can't easily swap between 2D and 3D projects because there is now a dedicated 2D camera and light
7. I go to access the mouse position in code and it fails because "I'm trying to use the old input system"
8. I swap it in a random menu and Unity tells me it needs to restart again
November 15, 2025 at 2:30 PM
3. Start the project. It takes 12 minutes to open.
4. It shouts that "I started it in admin" – I literally can't do that on my managed laptop. I press "restart in standard user". It crashes
5. I open the default 3D project and it tells me that "I installed depreciated assets and I should fix that".

Unity is the perfect example. I recently installed Unity 6 to teach and was shocked how trash it is. A mess of broken shouty guff, AI, and dark patterns... That takes 15 minutes to open.

Godot definitely ain't prefect, but it opens and lets you make stuff. Me and my students *wanted* to learn it

Yes! This is what I've been trying to articulate for a while now. Plenty of open source projects have fucking abysmal UI/UX, which understandably puts people off

But... if the mainstream is constantly pushing updates that break everything and has UI/UX which is just as bad then why not move?

I more hope the preview is not representative of the game as a whole and/or the preview response is so negative that they tone things down or add options to shut him the fuck up.

But hey listen, hey. Hey listen HEY LISTEN. I'm worried.
November 14, 2025 at 7:57 PM
I'm not so certain about the reviews honestly. EVERY preview I've seen about this is not just negative about it, but completely furious. It's going to be... interesting, I think.
November 14, 2025 at 7:50 PM
Man I hope this isn't true, because it would be baffling if they've done this.

There is a very well documented history of people being annoyed about this exact thing happening roughly every 5 to 10 years. We teach it in game design courses as it's such a known issue! 🤦

Yaaaaaaaaaay! I'm so happy for you 🧡
